Materia Medica in Arabic & Persian, Shirazy, 1793
These medicines generally working by cutting and cleansing, but without manifest heat. The ancients believed Wind and Phlegm caused stones, so many of these cut Phlegm while relieving Wind.
Sample Combinations
1. Bearberry (1 scruple), distilled water (1.5 oz.), Tincture of Cinnamon (1 dram), Syrup of Marshmallow (2 drams). Form a potion.
2. Marshmallow root, Licorice (3 drams each), Bearberry (2 drams), Linseed (1 dram). Decoct in 3 lbs. down to 2 lbs.
