1. DECOCTION FOR GANGRENE (Pharmacopee Usuelle, Louvain, 1821) 3. POWDER FOR GANGRENE
   Horehound   Unslaked Lime  3 parts
   Pennyroyal   Arsenic  1 part
   Rue Make a paste with strong vinegar, form pills and dry in the sun. Powder and sprinkle over the Gangrene. (Syrian “Book of Medicine”)
   Rosemary 4. SPIRIT FOR GANGRENE
   Sage   Mastic
   Scordium.   1 part each   Myrrh
   Camomile   Frankincense
   Rose   Amber   2 oz. each
   Elder.   2 parts each   Rectified Spirit of Wine  2 lbs.
   Marshmallow  6 parts Distill off the spirit for topical application. (Gazophylacium Medico-Physicum, Woyts, 1746)
   Fenugreek   8 parts
   Linseed.  24 parts
2. DECOCTION FOR GANGRENE (Dispensatorium medico pharmaceuticum Palatinatus, 1764)
   Yarrow
   Wormwood.   6 drams each
   Scordium
   Sage
   Hyssop
   Rue
   Elder flower
   St. Johns wort   ½ oz. each
   Rose   1 oz.
   Myrrh       6 drams
   Aloes
   Asafetida  ½ oz. each
Either of these can be decocted in 5 parts water and 2 parts vinegar and are applied with a flannel, changing regularly. A little Camphorated Spirit can be added to make it stronger.
