Preparation:
Fry Myrobalans in butter (or Ghee) and the rest in Almond oil, then mix with triple their weight of clarified Honey. At last add Turbith powder 5 drams, Musk 15 grains (some versions seemed to not add Turbith)
Function:
Promotes Digestion, Strengthens Heart, Brain, Stomach, Spleen and Liver, clears Cold and Phlegm, resolves Wind
Use:
1. Indigestion
2. Dampness of the Spleen and Stomach
3. Putrefying Humors in the belly
4. Foul body odor, Bad breath
5. Hemorrhoids
6. Strengthens Mind and Heart
7. Prevents and treats Melancholy
8. Maintains Health and Youthfulness; some claimed it restored Youth
9. Aphrodisiac
10. Headache
11. Jaundice
12. Liver disease
13. Benefits Sight
14. Chronic and Tertian Fevers
Dose:
1–3 drams in the morning with warm water.
Comment:
Wirtzung said “… with her heat strengthens the digestion of the Stomach and of the Liver, it consumes all Windiness of the same, it makes good Breath, and is very commodious for the whole body; it keeps a body healthy, it provokes desire of Venery, and it obstructs all the Bleeding of the Piles”.
