Chai Hu(Bupleurum) Bupleurum chinense 9 grams ea.
Dang Gui(Chinese angelica) Angelica sinensis 3 grams ea.
Bai Shao (White Peony) Paeonia lactiflora
Bai Zhu(White Atractylodes) Atractylodes macrocephala
Fu Ling(Poria) Poria cocos
Zhi Gan Cao(Fried Licorice) Glycyrrhiza uralensis
Pao Jiang(fried Ginger) Zingiber officinale
Bo He(Mint) Mentha haplocalyx

Preparation:

Powder. It may be prepared as a decoction with the above doses.

Function:

Moves Qi, calms the Liver, benefits Spleen, Qi and Blood

Use:

1. Acute and chronic Gastritis, Enteritis, Indigestion
2. PMS, Breast tenderness
3. Irritability, Stress, Emotions, mild depression
4. Dizziness, Headache especially due to stress
5. Hypochondriac pain

Dose:

take 6 grams of the powder twice daily with warm water

Cautions:

None noted

Modifications:

1. If Paeonia Mu Dan Pi and Gardenia Zhi Zi is added, it becomes Dan Zhi Xiao Yao San (also called Jia Wei Xiao Yao San). It is used if there are signs of Heat with Qi stagnation. This is good for Stress with Irritability and Depression with anger.
2. More deficiency, add Astragalus Huang Qi.
